Who We Are

Dear Visitor to our Website

On behalf of the Evangelical Congregational Church, welcome to our site.  Our church exists for one purpose and one purpose only, to bring glory to God.  We believe that we have been created in the image of God in righteous, holiness and truth, and that we have been created to be in relationship with Him.  We understand that we have fallen from that because of our sin but through the work of Christ on the cross we have the hope of forgiveness and eternal life.  In our worship service, through the song, prayer, confession, preaching and the of giving the sacraments, we seek to bring glory to God in all things.

As our name indicates we are an Evangelical church.  Evangelical can be defined in a number of ways.  You can define it biblically, historically and theologically.  When we say we are an evangelical church we are essentially saying that we believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, his divine and human nature, his substitutionary atonement for the forgiveness of sin, and his triumphant return at the end of time.   We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the inerrant and infallible words of God, and that through the gospel we desire to be a redeeming and transforming presence in our culture and in our world.

We are delighted by the ways in which God has used our church in many ways throughout its long history that began in 1839.  There have been many challenges, ups and down, but through it all God has remained faithful.

As part of our mission we would love to be of help to you in your spiritual walk.  For that matter, we would love for you to be of help to us, as we seek to serve Christ and minister the gospel to a hurting world.  Whether it is The Evangelical Congregational Church, or someplace else, pray that God would lead you to a church where you can faithfully be taught God’s word and be utilized in service in his kingdom.

Pastor Tim

We believe in one God, who eternally exists as three persons: the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Bible is God’s only authoritative revealed word.

We believe that all people are sinners and are separated from God.

We believe that God, the Father, reconciles believers to Himself through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ.

We believe that repentance and faith in Christ as Savior and Lord is the only means of salvation.

We believe that, after death, we will live with our lord Jesus Christ throughout eternity.

We believe that all Christians will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ.

We believe that our lives should reflect faithfulness to God, love toward our fellowmen, and steadfastness to the church.

We believe that we are called to bring others to Jesus Christ.

We believe in the bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the “Apostles’ Creed”, which embodies the essential truths of the Christian faith.
